Alhazen(Ibn Al-Haytham) was the first genius to invent a camera. A pinhole camera,Camera Obscura, was the first camera to be ever invented. From upside down images of a pinhole camera to Kodak Reel-Camera to Digital Cameras & SLR(Single-Lens Reflex) Cameras, photography has sure gained much more recognition.
One can argue that the aim of inventing cameras was not for a personal pursuit of passion. It was to keep a record of historical events in images, capture royalties and in a later stage, promote Hollywood(the yesteryears only entertainment avenue). However,as technology progressed and globalisation took over the world, photography gained more prominence. While many of us take it as a leisurely activity, others have chosen to pursue it as their career!
Furthermore, we have various fields in photography from Wildlife to Fashion to Abstract to People to News to Portraiture to Automobiles to XYZ.
Yes that's quite a lot there!
In any case, photography has recently become an even more popular choice amongst the people of my generation. I see more and more friends of mine who think they are the next Steve McCurry or Dabboo Ratnani. While some of them do a decent job in the pursuit of being one, I have witnessed quite a few who put a shame to photography.
So here are some fun-facts trivia for all of us in love(if not fascinated) with photography.
-----------------------------------------
>George Eastman patented the first film in roll form to prove practicable in 1884; in 1888 he perfected the Kodak camera, the first camera designed specifically for roll film!
>Issac Newton's discovery of light being composed of a spectrum of colours was a major contribution in the study of optics. While this discovery has nothing to do with his contributions in the development of cameras, it did play a fundamental part in the study of optics. If not for him, Photography might have still been in Black & White!
>"Around 1822, A French researcher Joseph Nicephore Niepce, created the first photograph by using paper that was coated with a chemical. The image would not stay permanently on the paper and would disappear after a short while.Even so, despite the short-lived nature of the image, the concept of photography was born with this experiment and paved the way for further study and development in this field."
>"The word 'photography' was coined by scientist Sir John F.W. Herschel in 1839 and it is actually is derived from two Greek words 'photos' meaning light and 'graphein' meaning draw."
>"1913: 35 mm still-camera was created."
>"1948: The concept of the Polaroid camera is introduced in the market. American scientist Edwin Land developed the process for instant photography. Later Polaroid Corporation developed the 'instant color' film around 1963."
>"1985: Digital processing technology makes its entry. Digital imaging and processing is introduced by Pixar."
>"Single Lens Reflex(SLR) cameras allow the photographer to see the precise focus, color, framing, and brightness that will be recorded on film, because the viewfinder looks through the lens"
>"The light from a scene follows a different path in an SLR camera compared to an ordinary point-and-shoot camera. A mirror behind the lens reflects the incoming image to a corrective prism. "
>"SLR cameras eliminate parallax error that is inevitable with cameras that have different paths for the lens and the viewfinder. Parallax is the phenomenon by which the shorter the distance between the subject and the camera, the greater the angular error in the actual and the perceived image."

So hopefully,I have done a good job in covering the seldom touched aspects of photography! And hopefully,I have enlightened some photographers too! ;)
Cheers(to life and everything else nice),
