In The Honour Of St.Valentine

Valentine's day 2010 blog-post, I spoke about the history and meaning of this day. A year later, Valentine's Day 2011, I shan't regurgitate history but I shall share a beautiful poem which I feel would be very apt for today, the Day Of Love.

It is one of my favourite poems, a sonnet to be more precise. I have it memorized by heart. Hope you readers enjoy it too, try getting to the depth of the meaning, it's truly magical & beautiful (:

Light + Graphein = Photography

Imagine you have a perfect scenery in your mind and you want to paint it on canvas. However, not all of us have the "magic hands" of Leonardo Da Vinci or Pablo Picasso now do we? To no surprise then, Camera was invented to help such artists who didn't possess these "magic hands".

Alhazen(Ibn Al-Haytham) was the first genius to invent a camera. A pinhole camera,Camera Obscura, was the first camera to be ever invented. From upside down images of a pinhole camera to Kodak Reel-Camera to Digital Cameras & SLR(Single-Lens Reflex) Cameras, photography has sure gained much more recognition.

One can argue that the aim of inventing cameras was not for a personal pursuit of passion. It was to keep a record of historical events in images, capture royalties and in a later stage,promote Hollywood(the yesteryears only entertainment avenue).However,as technology progressed and globalisation took over the world, photography gained more prominence. While many of us take it as a leisurely activity, others have chosen to pursue it as their career!
Furthermore, we have various fields in photography from Wildlife to Fashion to Abstract to People to News to Portraiture to Automobiles to XYZ.

Yes that's quite a lot there!

In any case, photography has recently become an even more popular choice amongst the people of my generation. I see more and more friends of mine who think they are the next Steve McCurry or Dabboo Ratnani. While some of them do a decent job in the pursuit of being one, I have witnessed quite a few who put a shame to photography.

So here are some fun-facts trivia for all of us in love(if not fascinated) with photography.

As the title of this post suggests, there are a million-gazillion things going on in the world right now.

Here is my list of Top 5 "Happenings" to take note of, in a quick summary!

In no particular order,

Number 5 : The Money Race

The poor-rich divide shall only grow wider, while the issues of sexism and racism take a backseat! Yes, at one point of time, the world was more concerned with the male-dominated society,suppression of women,objectification of women,prejudices against the "darker" race and so on and so forth.

However,now the world is moving on. It is not about whether you are a male or a female,a chinese or an indian, but rather how much money is there in your pocket!

Concepts of Capitalism & Consumerism seem more relevant in today's context than any other.

And these concepts are only going to reach greater heights with the world's upcoming biggest economies- China & India(in alphabetical order)

The question is, what is the tipping point? Or will there be a new "tipping point" defined by these 2 countries?

More than how well they are going to flourish, I am concerned with the impact they will have on the society as a whole. Is the income gap between the 'haves' and the 'have-nots' only going to worsen? Or are we going to have a good support of government, a good redistribution of wealth and as a result- positive growth in standard of living for everyone?

Number 4 : Tolerance on Religion?

It is alright to have political cartoons and mock the different political parties and politicians in any given country. However,when the issue comes to religion, one better watches his word! Comics have been an underrated media tool and perhaps has decided to gain it's share of limelight! Or so have cartoonists decided to prove. Unfortunately for those who decided to take the risk and be controversial, trying to mock religion is perhaps not the most ideal choice of subject matter. In year 2005, A Danish Newspaper published controversial cartoons that demeaned Prophet Muhammad and this certainly upset the muslims. So much so to the extent that there were terror attacks planned,to bomb the Danish Newspaper company's office.

In my opinion, there is an invisible boundary that should be ideally set for all working members of the media. You do not mock such sensitive topics and expect no strong negative reactions from the public. Specifically Religion, which should be respected in any and every case. Personally, you may not even believe in the notion of an omnipotent power whom we are to oblige to, very popularly known as GOD. But your personal views should be kept personal. There is no reason to criticize it and try to get attention. There are much better(and safer) ways to do that! Unless you are a genius, who have studied Religion inside out and have a good reason to express you views through the medium of print or non-print media, stick to keeping them within your mind.

Number 3: Being infused(and amused) into(by) a Tech-Savy World

From a time when black and white,small & fat television sets were considered a luxury to an age now,when owning a Plasma, big & slim television set is NOT ENOUGH! It has to be in High Definition(HD) now! There was my Grandpa's time, when they were thankful that their tvs had a reasonable audible volume. And there is my era,where digital dolby sound surround system is a norm. Technology has certainly taken quite a good few leaps and by the looks of it, I cannot imagine what could be the next revolution!!

3-D movies have definitely been the latest fascinating thing,besides iPads, for technology.

Number 2 : USA's 1st Black President - A let-down?

This may be no news to some of us, but Obama surely has been criticized for making empty promises. From his failed attempts of exiting Iraq(though now America has thankfully) to being Anti-Business and causing American Businessmen to frown, this man sure has seem to be a major let-down. I am especially disappointed as I was very moved by his speeches and loved his ideologies that he conveyed during the elections.

I hope the situation gets better because what affects the Big Brother,affects the rest of the world massively too. Their policies,their growth impacts quite a bunch of countries!

Number 1 : Disastrous Delhi Needs Blessings.

The Commonwealth Games(CWG) were much awaited in New Delhi,India, for the past year or so. Delhites, and the Government(I am assuming), were hoping that CWG will bring India in the limelight and help them to improve their tourism and economy. However,with the major blunders in the management team of CWG, the success rate of CWG in Delhi seems debatable.

To make matters worse,this monsoon season in Delhi has cost many their lives with the disease Dengue taking a toll! It is almost declared an epidemic! High time for Indians in New Delhi to pray for the government to pull up their socks!

Not just to ensure that the CWG runs,and runs smoothly, but also to address this issue of a weak health safety net.

Day of Love,For Love & Beloved.

Countless times, have I encountered men saying "Valentine's Day is highly overrated". or "it's just a hallmark greeting card" or somewhere along those lines.

Well I believe that EITHER these men are single,and yet to fall in love OR too cynical.

And then I argue : I agree that some very cheesy couples have made it look very exaggerated, BUT, at the end of the day, it is a day in honour of St. Valentine' and I believe that there is no better way to celebrate it then to spend the day with your loved ones!

and then THEY argue : but if you want to spend special time with your special someone,then you can do it any other day,why must it necessarily has to be on Valentine's Day?

and then I argue back : might as well you say the same for Thanksgiving,St Pat's Day and Easter Day et cetra!

Seriously, I believe that we must acknowledge the history of how this day came about!

St Valentine was a priest in Rome, in the 3rd Century. He believed in the institution of love and marriage.He conducted marriages and the Emperor then,Claudius, was against this because he felt that his dream of a BIG army would not evolve because many married men wouldn't want to leave their families and sacrifice their lives!

So Claudius prisoned St Valentine for carrying out secret marriage ceremonies,which was against his will(obviously)!

However,many people still visited him and presented him flowers and other tokens of appreciation. One of them was the prison guard's daughter with whom St Valentine eventually fell in love with. The prison guard was aware of this and allowed her to meet him often!

The day that St Valentine was to die, he left her a note thanking her for all the love and care that she gave him!

This note was written on February 14th, 269 A.D! (:

So now all of you lovelies reading this feel enlightened right? haha.

so yeah, I think it's a wonderful day that honours love and marriage! As much as I agree that we should celebrate love everyday, but dedicating a day to Love reminds us the importance of having it in life!

Love is not only for couples but for everyone!

2 Days to Mid Year Exams

93 Days to Prelims

149 Days to Pre A Level Exams

*drum rolls*

177 DAYS TO ALEVELS!

Yeah,

in less than 200 days,

I will be sitting for the most awaited exams in my entire life.

As much as I can't wait to sit for them, I can't wait to GET OVER THEM.

As much as I love my JC, I CANT WAIT TO GET OUT OF IT AND MOVE ON IN MY LIFE.

And here's the biggest irony :

my JC life is the fastestttttttttttttt moving period in my life and YET the pain that I'm going through makes it the slowest and perhaps the most unbearable.

I have major plans and major back up plans for my after-jc life.

And yes, I can't wait to accomplish those ever endless and repetitive dreams I have had day and night.

Mentioning them would only make them less beautiful.

Making them come true would only add more value to the entire idea altogether.

Along the entire journey,

one thing that will be constantly changing : company. yeah,those friends.

But

one thing that will never change : Friends. ironically. but here's the catch : its' those best friends that I can count on ...no,not one hand but 2 hands! :D [Yeah, I am very lucky]

My biggest barrier will be my lack of tolerance for wastesd time. Time spent with people who talk no sense,make no sense and are full of NON-SENSE.Also, time and efforts spent on advising people who never heed it. They are the biggest ironies. Cos' they ASK for advice, only to NEVER heed it.

Which is why, I prefer not to be advised. I prefer to lead my life the way I want it. It's not about being self-centered. It's just about the best one who knows me can only be me. And I only take advise when I ask for it. Even then, I don't guarantee that I will folllow it. It might just influence my decisions.

Other than that, I hate it. I just hate it.

Nonetheless,

I just want to say that,

let me not live in the past.

let me not life in the future.

let me live,and make my present,the best present ever.

So 2 Days to MYEs.

I will be honest. I am not the best prepared. I am better prepared than CTs but not good enough for MYEs

It is definitely not putting my best foot forward.

Honestly, I just don't feel like. I want to, but I don't feel like. Maybe cos' I always look at the countdown to Prelims and Alevels and have overlooked minor exams like CTs and MYEs.

Having said that, I do respect the MOE system for having such exams. Cos they force me to feel the pressure and start studying. If I don't get such lil' wake-up calls, I would perhaps live in procrastination for life.

Nevertheless,

Have I completed the syllabus? NO.
Am I intending to? YES.
Have I been Efficient in doing so so far?NO.
But am I improving? YES.
Is life FAIR? NO.
Will I WHINE AND BITCH ABOUT IT? YES.
WILL I commit suicide? NO.
but instead will I just get over it and concentrate on the bigger picture? YES.
Did I cry? NO.
Am I Lying? YES.
Am I good NOW ? NO.
Am I STILL LYING? YES! :D

yeah I am done.
As much as I would love to post a meaningful and informative one as I have promised myself and my fellow readers, I have to say this deep regret that I am unable to comply by that rule. Like I said in a few posts earlier, give me till June. I shall be BACK!

I was in india from 22nd Dec08 till 9th Jan09! And had one helluva time there with both ups and downs of course. [It's insaneintelligence's life! it is BOUND TO BE A ROLLERCOASTER RIDE!!]

so yeah, that was one unforgettable experience. Especially

since it was my trip all alone!

As much as I would love to continue with my "increase your general knowledge" series, I am really sorry but I can't do so for the moment. I shall be back on 1st June 09-Monday with "increase your general knowledge part 5"! and hopefully, will complete t

Bush's Idea Of Coping With The Crisis!

When George Bush was declared as a president, one of his goals for the U.SA was to ensure homeownership for all americans. He encouraged loans and other developments on the housing sector.He did not,in any sense, predicted that he would be facing such a deadly global financial crisis. He did not, in his wildest dreams, would have thought of bailing out on American International Group.

Yes, he did manage to successfully achieve his target. The homeownership in U.S.A did increase. However, he neglected the opportunity cost in doing so. Many people, who could not afford, took prime/sub-prime loans and they are the ones who are MOST affected by this crisis. The very rich are completely unaffected. The rich but unstable ones,mainly those who rely too much on stock market and their businesses have crashed. Now I don't have to talk about the middle and lower income level groups. You should get the idea.

However, on a whole, the Bush Team focused mostly on making big talks about "terrorism and war" , they also cut taxes and privatised social security. Yet, the only reason they had their economy rising was due to their rising values for housing.

Since this issue is very prevalent,especially in our current context, I won't rephrase or summarise the article I came across from IHT much. I shall "ctrl+c and ctrl+v" some relevant excerpts from it instead.

The global financial system was teetering on the edge of collapse when President George W. Bush and his economics team huddled in the Roosevelt Room of the White House for a briefing that, in the words of one participant, "scared the hell out of everybody."

It was Sept. 18. Lehman Brothers had just gone belly-up, overwhelmed by toxic mortgages. Bank of America had swallowed Merrill Lynch in a hastily arranged sale. Two days earlier, Bush had agreed to pump $85 billion into the failing insurance giant American International Group.

Bush, according to several people in the room, paused for a single, stunned moment to take it all in.

"How," he wondered aloud, "did we get here?"

Eight years after arriving in Washington vowing to spread the dream of homeownership, Bush is leaving office, as he himself said recently, "faced with the prospect of a global meltdown" with roots in the housing sector he so ardently championed.

"The Bush administration took a lot of pride that homeownership had reached historic highs," Snow said in an interview. "But what we forgot in the process was that it has to be done in the context of people being able to afford their house. We now realize there was a high cost."

For much of the Bush presidency, the White House was preoccupied by terrorism and war; on the economic front, its pressing concerns were cutting taxes and privatizing Social Security. The housing market was a bright spot: ever-rising home values kept the economy humming, as owners drew down on their equity to buy consumer goods and pack their children off to college.

Today, millions of Americans are facing foreclosure, homeownership rates are virtually no higher than when Bush took office, Fannie and Freddie are in a government conservatorship, and the bailout cost to taxpayers could run in the trillions.

As the economy has shed jobs — 533,000 last month alone — and his party has been punished by irate voters, the weakened president has granted his Treasury secretary extraordinary leeway in managing the crisis.

Never once, Paulson said in a recent interview, has Bush overruled him. "I've got a boss," he explained, who "understands that when you're dealing with something as unprecedented and fast-moving as this we need to have a different operating style."

Paulson and other senior advisers to Bush say the administration has responded well to the turmoil, demonstrating flexibility under difficult circumstances. "There is not any playbook," Paulson said.

Last week, Fox News asked Bush if he was worried about being the Herbert Hoover of the 21st century.

"No," Bush replied. "I will be known as somebody who saw a problem and put the chips on the table to prevent the economy from collapsing."

But in private moments, aides say, the president is looking inward. During a recent ride aboard Marine One, the presidential helicopter, Bush sounded a reflective note.

"We absolutely wanted to increase homeownership," Tony Fratto, his deputy press secretary, recalled him saying. "But we never wanted lenders to make bad decisions."

It's more youthful and a favourite leisurely activity for some of us especially!

That includes me too! So here's one,that I hope will get everyone reading!

The MOVIE REVIEWS!

Not in order of preference,

1. Quantam Of Solace : 007.

Alright.So we have Daniel Craig as the new bond in this film. He's done justice to his role.

However, the film in itself, has not lived up to its legendary name! It doesn't have enough substance. It is more action,and less story. And even the action will fail to amuse some men. It is about how a spanish/italian bad bloke[i don't really know.the name's dominique greene.so go figure] strikes a deal over a land which is APPARENTLY rich in oil.and He promises the better of the society and care for environment blah blah blah. And our Hawtty 007 discovers that it is all fake and blah blah blah. For men who're looking for steamy scenes : you'll be disappointed.

My rating : 2.5/5 stars.

2. Madagascar : Escape 2 Africa

AWESOME.AWESOME.AWESOMEEEEEEEEEE. Now if you haven't had enough laugh for the day, perhaps this is the BEST MEDICINE! It's truly adorable, funny and touching. Yes,it's animated and Yes,it's a family film. But most importantly, I think youth like us should watch these kind of films to get the best of the best humor. The characters are way too cute to resist the film. The film is a continuation of the last one. However, if you've not watched the last film, be not afraid to watch this one! Cos' the last few scenes of the part 1 has been added to this one.

The story is about how Zoopa[the lion]'s kiddo Alex lands up in the Central New York Zoo and becomes a heroic animal icon there. and then somehow,i won't tell how[watch the film for that], he lands back up in his hometown. He goes from HERO TO ZERO EVEN WHEN HE'S RECOGNISED AS the jungle of the king Lion Zoopa's SON!!!! To build back his image, he does something for his fellow animals and that's how the story goes about. It's sweet and funny. The dialogues are the best! Seriously. It's one that I wouldn't mind watching AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!!

My rating : 5/5 STARS!!! :D

3. Four Christmases.

Ah..Not much really. It's a pleasant film but I think more suitable for couples who're in a live-in relationship or for those who've been in a longggg relationship. It's about how a couple are about to celebrate their christmas in a new exotic destination.Basically, chill out,surf,sun and sex.

HOWEVER, all of it comes to a hault when they realise their flight's delayed due to bad weather conditions. So they end up having to celebrate it with their divorced parents. Yep, Reese Witherspoon's parents are divorced and so are Vince Vaughn's. Which is pretty much the reason why they never got legally married either. Nor do they have kids. Cos' they don't wanna end up like their parents. So they have their FOUR Christmases. Now you get the logic when the tagline said : His Father.Her Mother.His Mother.Her Father. All in one day.

Movie's good. For Vaughn's & Witherspoon's Fans : this one's out for you guys too. They've done justice to their roles.

My rating : 3/5 Stars

4. Yuvvrraaj
Being the Biggest Fan of Salman Khan, saying that I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WOULD BE AN UNDERstatement. Not only did the film look bad, but my handsome hero wasn't lookin' all prince charming in this film either. The film had too many dilemmas. I would say, it was "overcrowded" with crisis. There were way too many things going on at the same time and everything was overly dramatized. Ghai's this new venture seriously leaves us clueless as to what on earth is happening in the film. It is supposedly about 3 brothers and how their world turns upside down when their father dies. However, the plot is too confusing. There is no true one focus on a particular subject/object. There are unnecessary songs and except for 2 songs, they all suck REAL BAD. I am truly surprised. Shocked. MUCH MUCH MUCHHHHH MORE THAN disappointed. Had they stuck to one simple problem and solution and structured their film well, this may have passed at least a decent 3 star rating.Only good point in the entire film was anil kapoor's acting. Salman Khan and Zayed Khan did justice to their roles. It isn't their fault that their script was so melodramatic and awfully wrong. But the fact that such commendable stars signed on such a sad and pathetic story is their fault. Even if you're a salman fan, I won't recommend this one.

5. Oye Lucky Lucky Oye!
awesome. simply awesome. Abhay Deol's a rising star indeed. You can add him to the list of our current classic actors such as konkona sen, rahul bose,kaykay menon and rajpal yadav. He's done a wonderful job in this film just like his previous one : Ek Chalis Ki Last Local. The film's based on him-Lucky, who grows up to become a better and only better and then perhaps the BEST THIEF! The film's a laughing riot. It's a very fun film and if you're lookin for serious matter or love-sappy shit, then this one ain't for you. This one's a light-hearted film that requires few but sharp brain cells. He's the central character. So the rest of the supporting cast is not much to be said about. Paresh Rawal has as usual, done his best and it shows of course. Of songs, there's a track named Jugni which pretty much plays throughout the film. It's awesome. But then again, if you aren't game for punjabi music, don't go for it.

6. Dostana
EXCELLENT. FUN. NEW. ROCKS. This movie's got it all. New setting, new substance and good new beats that for sure will get you groovin'! Actors AB Baby and Johnny Honey Plus PiggyChops Sweets did alllllllllllllllllll well in this film! Not to forget, our very very captivating actor Boman Irani, who's comic timing is perfect. Bobby's role is too little for me to really comment on his acting skills. But whatever we saw, we liked. However, a more chivalrous actor could've done a perhaps better job even if it's for a small appearance. The movie's basically about how our 2 protagonists want to get this gorgeous house on rent but are denied access cos priyanka stays there and her Mamiji/Mausi[i forgot :P] will only allow girls to share the apartment with her. So they pose as gays and get the room only to fall in love with the beautiful ex Miss World. There is a lot more to this film. Watch it to find out what and how! It's beautiful directed and projected. Songs are truly melodious and catchy!Hatts Off to Tarun Mansukhani-the director! (:

After yesterday's topic on Mumbai Blasts,

I have decided to cover yet another crucial issue.

So this is the sequel to my earlier post.

The Cholera Epidemic!

While one Third World Country suffers from a man-made DIE-sease, the other suffers from a relatively "natural" DIE-sease. Indeed, I'm talking about the cholera epidemic that has taken over Zimbabve. This has been going on for quite sometime now. However, what is so controversial about it, is that Zimbabve's President-Robert Mugabe[yeah he's a black man who's got nose rings like pittbulls do] has announced that "everything is under control". Call it his blonde moment or negligence or perhaps "cover-up" for the sad state his country is in or whatever, it does not change the fact that the deaths due to that diesease is still rising as reported by World Health Organisation. What makes it even more ironic was that while Mr.Mugabe was happily claiming that "...there is no more cholera", WHO reports that 783 people have died and 16,400 are infected with Cholera.[As according to The Economist].

This man is in denial for one very simple reason : POLITICS. He's got the U.N pressure on him to take some stringent measures to control the wide-spread of Cholera if not there will be actions taken against him. The Present American President[yes,i'm talking about the BUSH!!!],French President Sarkozy and British PM Brown have all expressed their opinions that go AGAINST the current Zimbabve president.

As much as I do agree, that Mugabe should be replaced, I find it really funny that it's BUSH,SARKOZY AND BROWN SAYING SO! The very men who do not deserve their designated positions[except sarkozy.yeah it ain't his fault if his love life makes a lot of French people jealous!], the very men who are "talk only,no action" material (in Singaporean slang), are the ones voicing out! Seriously,someone needs to give them a MIRROR for some self-reflection time. It's no wonder the origins of the word 'politics' is Blood-sucking people. Except, I think it's blood-sucking MONGRALS! The term 'people' is too elite to give it to them!

Nevertheless, this hype has caused U.N to take "targeted sanctions" against Mugabe if he doesn't do anything about the situation in his country. It's no wonder he is "covering up" He has to ensure that he doesn't lose face anymore if he wants to stick to his oh-so-jewelled-throne. Poor thing might be back onto the streets and might just end up selling his "gorgeous" nose ring to stay alive! Now I'm sure he doesn't want that! So yeah, it explains it all on why he keeps denying that the epidemic isn't over!

We also have to take into account, that this is not merely a play of politics, but also a clash of Culture[Hutu-Tutsi] and hunger for Power. While they seem three seperate reasons, if you look close enough, you will realise that they are all inter-linked. And I can summarise how so, in one simple sentence : All in the vanity of being in control,having all the POWER, different CULTURES CLASH and play the game of POLITICS, which requires more brain cells than chess!

This is indeed another serious issue often neglected by commonmen cos it does not concern them. Just so to let you know, whatever happens in any country, DOES concern us. IT WILL AFFECT US. If things get too serious, you might just witness another World War within a blink of an eye! So KEEP YOUR EYES AND EARS WIDE OPEN. Instead of being concerned with trivial issues of our daily lives, broaden your thinking a little more and understand your surroundings!

Ever since my last blog post,

a lot has changed. Not only in my life, but in a lot more people's lives too.

So for the next 10 posts,

I shall cover 10 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW, across the genres of Crime,Romance,Entertainment,Environment,Sports,Business[Yes,STOCK MARKET!EXCHANGE RATES!] and Health.

These series of posts are dedicated to all those who are just too lazy to read/listen to the news. I know how boring it all looks and sounds. But trust me, people like me still love it anyhow. And we're proudly addicted to it.

So especially for you guys, here's something you should be aware about in rainbow colours to make reading even more pleasant! (:

1. Mumbai Terrorised!

Yes, There were firings, blasts, hostages and what not. Traumatizing enough to wake up the whole world. The blasts happened on 27 November[or 26th Nov. due to differences in time zones]. Happened at the top-notch locations- Nariman House, Oberoi Trident Hotel, Taj Hotel,Colaba, CST[Chatrapathi Sivaji Terminal] Railway Station,Colaba streets. Hats off to our NSG[National Security Guard] commandos who put a tough fight against the terrorist and eventually captured some while killed others. For sure, some must have escaped too.

I wont make special mention any particular one commando who gave his life in the glory of his nation. Becos' all of them deserve it equally.

What is so unfortunate about this whole event is that it has hardly left an impact on the Indian government. There has been a lot of talks but no action. Which is really really sad. It's these kind of moments which make me feel ashamed for being an Indian. However, we also have to acknowledge the fact that it's all the play of Politics,Power and PAISA! yep. The 3 Ps of India. You cannot stop them, neither has anyone been able to beat them so far. India is capable of much more than what it seems. All we lack is, is a clean and stable government who is capable of thinking beyond their own profits. It's no wonder no one follows rules in India! They learn them and learn to either break them, or bend them. Truly, to survive in India is a miracle in itself. And I salute Indians in India for fighting the countless odds and risks staked against them in their daily lives.

People in countries like mine-Singapore, are too pampered. We have an A-list Security System. Our government ensures that we profit as much as they do. They ensure we have food,shelter and education- the 3 basic necessities of life. We love our life. And we have all the sympathy towards the victims in terrorised areas of the world. In fact, we have probably more sympathy than people in that particular country itself. Which is why, we're more than willing to donate and other forms of help that we can do, whenever such tragedies occur. As much as it is good to live in a country like mine, it has its own drawbacks too.

Living in Singapore, one is not equipped with survivor skills.Yes, we do have camps and what not in our school days to teach us those valuable lessons. We learn it all in theory. But by the time the real test comes, that is to apply it in practical, those theories become rusty. We get frustrated easily, we feel homesick. Which is why, Singaporeans are unable to leave a lasting impression in other countries sometimes. We come off as being either too "kiasu" or too "spoonfed" or too "sensitive".

The way things run in other countries[Inclusive of both 1st world countries], is much different from the basic ettiquets we get here. You have to be cunning sometimes, while you have to be sweet on the other times, bitter on the other other times and well, you get my point. In a nutshell, you have to see who you're talking to and react accordingly. You must also know where to get things done and how so. Things aren't so systematic as they are in Singapore comparatively. And I know this for a fact, having spoken to people who've worked here and in other countries. But of course, this does not mean that life in the other countries suck. It just means that different people,different locations and different societies have their own lifestyles. To one, to its own.

So yeah, this is the bittersweet reality. The latest I've heard is that there were bomb threats on Delhi's International Airport- Indira Gandhi International. And secondly, a lot of the 31st new year's eve parties in top notch hotels are all cancelled. And to all those rich brats who are mourning and pouting about their glam party being cancelled, well : JUST BE GLAD THAT YOU'LL BE FREAKIN' ALIVE. I'm sure you'd rather have your lil' private parties as opposed to risking your life on the end of this year and awaiting for the who-knows-if-it-will-come-cos-i-might-just-be-dead new year. (:

It's not been a typical, but similar to a typical one, school day! I have missed it all and it feels awesome to be back in those lecture theaters, criticizing or perhaps mocking our econs lecturer's spoken english!

No monday blues for me today! haha. That's not a first but still uncanny for me! Ah, seems like Mondays' have decided to make friendship with me finally!
Anyways, for today's blog, the special feature would be the answer to the very very veryyyyyyyyyyyyy infamous question - Which came first-Chicken or Egg?
And if you haven't heard of it, you seriously need to get back from Mars and seriously consider about increasing your intellect level.

So here's the very-much debated question's ANSWER!

A rare fossilized dinosaur nest helps answer the conundrum of which came first, the chicken or the egg, two paleontologists say.

The small carnivorous dinosaur sat over her nest of eggs some 77 million years ago, along a sandy river beach. When water levels rose, Mom seems to have fled, leaving the unhatched offspring.

Researchers have now studied the fossil nest and at least five partial eggs. The nest is a mound of sand that extends about 1.6 feet (half a meter) across and weighs as much as a small person, or about 110 pounds (50 kg).

"Some characteristics of the nest are shared with birds, and our analysis can tell us how far back in time these features, such as brooding, nest building, and eggs with a pointed end, evolved — partial answers to the old question of which came first, the chicken or the egg," said researcher Francois Therrien, curator of dinosaur paleoecology at the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Alberta, Canada.

The answer?

Well, it's still unclear whether chicken eggs or chickens came first (the intended question in the original riddle), said Darla Zelenitsky, a paleontologist of the University of Calgary in Alberta who was the first scientist to closely analyze the dinosaur nest.

But interpreted literally, the answer to the riddle is clear. Dinosaurs were forming bird-like nests and laying bird-like eggs long before birds (including chickens) evolved from dinosaurs.

"The egg came before the chicken," Zelenitsky said. "Chickens evolved well after the meat-eating dinosaurs that laid these eggs."

So the original riddle might now be rephrased: Which came first, the dinosaur or the egg? Meanwhile, the new nest provides some of the strongest evidence in North America in favor of the bird-like egg over the chicken.

Rare dino nests

The fossil nest was collected in the 1990s and kept at Canada Fossils Limited in Calgary, Alberta. That's where Zelenitsky first spotted the remains, which were labeled at first as belonging to a duck-billed dinosaur, an herbivore. (In 2007, the fossil was acquired by the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology in Alberta.)

Zelenitsky realized that the nest and eggs actually belonged to a small theropod, a meat-eating dinosaur. In particular, the egg-layer was likely a maniraptoran, the group of theropods that paleontologists think birds derived from some 150 million years ago during the Jurassic Period.

"Nests of small theropods are rare in North America and only those of the dinosaur Troodon have been identified previously," said Zelenitsky. "Based on characteristics of the eggs and nest, we know that the nest belonged to either a caenagnathid [a family of maniraptorans] or a small raptor, both small meat-eating dinosaurs closely related to birds."

She added, "Either way, it is the first nest known for these small dinosaurs."

The only other egg clutch identified to date from a maniraptoran in North America belonged to Troodon formosus.

Egg-laying behaviors

The analysis of the nest, detailed in the latest issue of the journal Palaeontology, provides paleontologists with information about egg-laying in this particular dinosaur and others, along with the evolution of various egg-laying behaviors, Therrien said.

"Our research tells us a lot about the dinosaur that laid the eggs and how it built its nest," he said.

For instance, the position and spacing of the eggs suggest the original clutch contained at least 12 eggs arranged in a ring around the mound's flat top, where the theropod would have sat and brooded its clutch. The eggs were about 5 inches (12 cm) long and, like bird eggs, they were pointed at one end.

The analysis also suggests the dinosaur laid its eggs two at a time on the sloping sides of the mound. That's unlike, say, crocodiles, which lay all their eggs at once, and more like birds, which lay one egg at a time. (The ancestors of crocodiles gave rise to dinosaurs and later on, birds.)

As if figuring out the chicken-egg puzzle weren't enough, the researchers also have another objective: "To find the same kind of nest with babies inside," Zelenitsky told LiveScience. "There are dinosaur eggs from North America with baby bones preserved inside of them. It's entirely possible, but again these types of nests (from small meat-eating dinosaurs) are fairly rare."

The research was funded by Richard and Donna Strong, the Alberta Ingenuity Fellowship Fund and the Killam Fellowship Fund. "
